My main shock was that it apparently costs $300,000,000 to build a 950-foot long bridge. The fact that this enormous figure isn’t enough to cover decent wages and local hires is astonishing. Someone is getting paid, and it isn’t the workers of DC.
(Then I realized Albert Pujols’s baseball-playing ability over the next ten years is, in theory, also worth 300 million. And then numbers lost all meaning to me.)
